Blog Assignment 12

Chalk to iPod: 21st Century Higher Education, ...Image by Michelle Pacansky-Brock via FlickrLearning to Change- Changing to Learn- This is a video made through the collaboration of educators from around the world for teachers today. What do they have to say about education as a whole? About standardized testing? About technology in the classroom?
Traditional education was made to produce assembly line workers. Unfortunately, we are still using the same assembly line approach to educate students today. Society isn't that simple anymore. Society today requires collaboration and using technology to its fullest extent. Children today are constantly collaborating in their everyday lives through Facebook and instant text messaging. Why do we discourage this interaction in school? True, these technologies can present distractions but it is the job of the teacher to harness their enthusiasm for these technologies and apply them to education. A child's learning today is more stimulated outside the classroom than it is when he or she is in school. It's amazing that anyone today can be prepared for today's society when they leave school. The current education system is preparing them for the dull life of the early 1900s, no the stimulating, fast-paced, competitive society of the 21st century. This video also lashes out against standardized testing. Today's society doesn't call for a "vending machine", bubble in the right answer approach to education. The world, although becoming more and more populated, can become smaller if we allow our students to connect with others around the world.

  1. I loved reading your post! I honestly could not have responded any better myself. Society does require collaboration and the use of technology. It is amazing how much things have changed since I was in elementary school! I think that you did a great post, keep up the hard work!

  2. Jameson,

This is a great video. I am so glad you found it and decided to use it. I think it makes a lot of great points that Dr. Strange would agree with. It makes me happy knowing that more and more people are realizing the corruption in our education system, and I hope we can help change education to make it better for our future students.
