Additional Assignment 2
The Child Driven Education- 1) People can absolutely teach themselves if they are willing to learn. 2) Kids perhaps have a greater ability to be self-taught. Adults seem to be less open to learning. 3) The only conditions necessary for kids to learn is access to resources and an open mind. 4) Computers and internet give you virtually unlimited access to the information you need to teach yourself. 5) Without motivation, no one is able to learn, let alone teach themselves. 6) Problems and questions give the learner a way to put his motivation for learning to the test. 7) You treat it the same as you would when you dangle a carrot in front of the face of a mule. You leave bits and pieces of information undiscovered (untasted) and leave the learner to discovering the knowledge. 8) I have a strange, unprovoked desire to learn. I have no idea where it came from, but that is why I chose the education profession; it allows me a lifelong learning process, all the while helping others to learn and learn to love to learn. 9) I personally find it hard to believe that any unmotivated person can learn. When they are unmotivated, they put up a mental block to instruction or pursuit of knowledge. Their only hope is to find some way to be motivated. 10) I teach myself very often. All my Lit classes require thorough reading and interpretations of material. I also do a lot of self-teaching in this EDM310 class... there's no way to get anything accomplished with a little self-teaching. 11) For me, teachers generally serve as a moderator. They show me the direction to go with something, and off I go! 12) Kids have a natural ability and/or drive to learn. As educators we must never treat a child as incapable. What we need to do is discover their motivation. 13) Are we willing to let children have the reins in their own learning?
