Blog Assignment 6a

The Networked Student- I was pretty impresses with the concept of this video. It's amazing to me the things that are available to us that many of us aren't even aware of.
As an educator, it is important that we keep up to speed with the technology available to us. You better believe  our students will. It would be a shame for a teacher to be unable to teach his or her students what they need to know for the future, while his or her students are teaching him what he should have already known today!
I'm confident that by the end of this course, I will have a well-established foundation for lifelong learning capabilities in our ever-changing technological world.

A 7th Grader's Personal Learning Environment-  This video blew me away. It's amazing the things they're doing in schools these days. I probably would have been much more inclined to pay attention in science class if it had been set up this way when I was in school. I love the fact that students can personalize their work. It makes it easier to stick with the student if they can display it in terms that they understand.  The ability to connect with peers and experts is essential to the learning process. This students PLE gives her the ability to do just that. It looks as though she is a little more advanced in her PLE than I am with my PLN, but at least I have something to strive for.
The Machine is Changing Us- What really hit home for me in this presentation was the quote he presented. The one that says how we shape our tools and then they shape us. I started to think about some of the tools that our generation has made and how they have come to define us. We have cell phones, computers, and magnificent automobiles. What does this all come down to? We have the ability to connect like never before. There are no boundaries. The only question we are posed with is: "Where will we, as an individual, draw the line for our own learning? Where will we allow it to end?" We have so many resources at our fingertips! I am constantly connecting with people. Whether it be via cell phone, online class, or in person, I am never alone. This gives me great opportunity to learn from others. I fully intend to learn even more connectivity tools as time progresses in order to be the best educator I can be.

  1. Surprised at the student in the Networked Classroom? What about you in EDM310?

Yes! Make your PLN even better than it is now.

I will have a post on The Machine Is Changing Us on the class blog soon.

Something is funny about your Podcast post. It seems to be floating behind this post. Please come by the lab - SOON - and have one of us take a look at it. I hope it is just a temporary thing with Blogger. Thanks.

  2. Hi Jameson! I'm a language arts secondary ed major too. It seems that everyone I encounter is either elementary of social science ed. SO to find a kindred spirit is cool. That seventh grader made me want to have an awesome PLE like hers. Its also slightly intimidating. But a student that is that self motivatated is an educators dream. A huge step up from the apathy that is encountered.
